- Poetry –
People prefer poetry with punch! Each poem must fit on one page of the book. Keep each poem within twelve to twenty-eight (12-28) lines, but fewer lines are okay for recognized forms such as the limerick. Keep the lines fairly short, so most lines fit on one line of the printed book.
Submissions are limited to three poems maximum from any one writer (but rules 8, 9, 10 and 11 above apply here, as well). Each poem must have an individual title. Established forms such as the sonnet are good, but so is free verse if tightly written. The watchword for all is discipline. A poem must accomplish much with very few words.
Such devices as rhyme, scansion, alliteration, allusion and metaphor generally improve a poem. A good poem operates at more than one level, and often has a revelatory surprise lurking within it somewhere. So -- amaze us in one page or less!
NOTE: If your work is selected for inclusion, you will be asked to submit a digital photo of yourself and a one page document which gives the following information:
- a brief bio;
- what led you to write;
- and in particular, what led you to write the particular piece which has been selected for the anthology.
This will be printed on the page immediately following your entry in the anthology.
